Specializing in Entrepreneurship will provide students with the necessary skill-set to successfully compete in the professional setting. Students will critically review their assumptions about new venturing and learn about the special demands and opportunities of the entrepreneurial context. Students also will learn about the various aspects of the entrepreneurial process starting with the identification of business opportunities, the development of appropriate business models and strategies, the formation of an entrepreneurial team, securing initial resources, as well as the functional demands of the entrepreneurial context e.g. in the marketing or financial domain. Beyond the functional competencies, the major is designed to foster social skills with an emphasis on leadership and analytical skills, and to develop innovative and proactive minds. With these skills the student can lead extraordinary lives by working in new businesses or established ones, as well as in for profit or non-for-profit organizations.Throughout the coursework we focus on entrepreneurial endeavors that have a high impact on society. Reflecting this orientation special emphasis is put on social entrepreneurship and high-growth entrepreneurship. In all classes we stress the importance of creating meaningful ventures from a personal and social point of view. Additionally, the initial courses as well as future courses will be design not just to provide academic learning experiences but also real-life experiences. The close interaction with practitioners and hands-on project work will assure the relevance of our entrepreneurship education.
Our goal is to provide an entrepreneurial education that leverages international diversity to create a special local, national, and international impact. In this regard, our major can benefit from the international background of our faculty and students, our international business network, and our international locations.
Entrepreneurs are oftentimes describes as individuals who bring innovations to the market place. In this regard our entrepreneurship program aims to foster innovative thinking and acting. Throughout our program we discuss the advantages and challenges of dealing with innovations.
Students have to successfully complete three courses beyond the business school core to complete a specialization in entrepreneurship. One course is a mandatory course that all students specializing in entrepreneurship need to complete successfully. This course introduces students to the entrepreneurship area and covers the essential aspects of entrepreneurship to lay a solid foundation for further education in the field. Additionally, students can select the remaining two courses from an initial offering of six courses. All of the elective courses cover important dimensions of entrepreneurship.
